2009-07-11 On July 2 in Vilnius the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science launched a Lithuanian version of teaching materials on addressing anti-Semitism for Lithuanian secondary schools.
The event was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Science. Key speakers of the event were Mr. Gintaras Steponavicius, Lithuanian Minister of Education and Science, Ambassador Janez Lenarcic, Director of ODIHR, Ms. Ruta Puisyte, Assistant Director of the Vilnius Yiddish Institute and Mr. Norbert Hinterleitner, Advisor on Anti-Semitism Issues OSCE/ODIHR.
The teaching materials are developed by ODIHR in cooperation with The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and national experts of 12 countries. Ms. Ruta Puisyte from the Vilnius Yiddish Institute is responsible for Lithuanian adaptation of the materials. This includes three booklets are about the Jewish history, contemporary issues of anti-Semitism, and anti-Semitism in the context of other forms of discrimination.
Starting in 2005 the project now enters a stage where the materials are disseminating to schools via teacher training seminars.
