The VYI at European Union Lecture Series
On 30 October 2008, VYI director Professsor Sarunas Liekis lectured at the Paris Maison de l’Europe in the series Rendez-vous de l'histoire (Encounters with History). His lecture was titled “Loger les minorités ethniques. Le cas de la politique envers les juifs dans la Lituanie de la période d'entre deux guerres (1918-1940)” (Accomodating ethnic minorities. Policies toward the Jews in interwar Lithuania [1918-1940].
For the prestigious lecture series, France invited 27 leading European historians, from each of the Union's 27 member countries, to address historical questions from a comprehensive European viewpoint. The series symbolically underscores the importance of a Europe-wide perspective, respecting cultural and historiographic diversity, in order to provide a sense of a shared European historical consciousness and civic spirit. The VYI is greatly pleased that through his lecture in this broad forum Professor Liekis brought distinction to the Institute and Lithuania.
